INTRODUCTION: Every living thing has one or more things to learn from them even human

beings. During the time of Job people learnt a lot from the beasts, fowls of the air and fish in the

waters.

But ask now the beasts and they shall teach thee: and the fowls of the air, and they

shall tell you: or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee; and the fishes of the sea

shall declare unto thee”. Job 12:7-8

With all the wisdom of Solomon, yet he learnt a lot from common insects as ants.

“Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Prov. 6:6

Today we are to the house of Rechabites and learn something from there, and at the same time call

into our houses and compare with the Rechabites, and warn us as God warned the children of Judah

and that of Israel; because they refused to obey the commandment of the Lord.

DISCUSSION

The word which came unto Jeremiah from the Lord in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, King

saying. Jer. 35:2.

Go unto the house of Rechabites, and speak unto them, and bring them unto the house of the Lord,

into the one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink. Jer. 35:2.

“Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Habaziniah and his brethren and all his sons and the whole house

of Rechabites” Jer. 35:3.

“And I brought them into the house of the Lord, into the chambers of the sons of Haran, the sons of

Ig-dalia, a man of God, which was by the chamber of  theprincess, which was above the chamber of

Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door. Jer. 35:4.

“And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites pots full of wine, and cups, and I said unto

them, Drink ye wine. Jer. 35: 5

“But they said, we will drink no wine: for Jonadab the son Rechab our father commanded us. Saying,

ye shall drink no wine neither ye, nor your sons forever.  Jer. 35:6.

All that God saw in the life of the Rechabites, was obedience and that is all that God wants from us.

Keep the commandments of God as the Rechabites kept the commandments of their father. Eccl.

12:13.

All the time man provokes God to anger and jealousy because, the respect we supposed to give to

God, me give men.Let us examine this statement by God.

The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, he commanded his sons not to drink wine, are performed,

for unto this day the drink none, but obey their father’s commandment; notwithstanding, I have

spoken unto you, rising early  and speaking; but ye hearkened not unto me. Jer. 35:14.

God in his anger and jealousy commanded every child of his to return from his evil ways and amend

his doings. Jer. 35:15.

God has kept the ant as a case study of the sluggard even beast, fowl of the air, the fishes of the sea

shall teach us knowledge.

The Rechabites for the disobedience, and God was pleading with man for good of man not God’s.

Amend your doings, that’s the plea.

Some of those doings we ought to amend are:

  1. Backbiting
  2. Drunkenness
  3. Unequally yoking with unbeliever (marriage)
  4. Idolatry
  5. Dressing
  6. Condemnation of others

Conclusions

Let us return to God’s commandments and keep them and live. The sooner we amend our doings the

better.

Thank you.
