INTRODUCTION: The parable of the ten virgins is simply the HOLISTIC analogy of our Christian race cum our typical daily living. It paints a crystal picture of a good Christian who has waited on the Lord for days, months and even years but is misled at the Die-Minute, thereby falls from the grace of God.
- The term ‘Die-minute’ although of informal usage is universally understood today because of the popularity of sports. In sports (basically football), it denotes THE PEAK, DANGEROUS MOMENT OR FEW MINUTES TO THE END OF THE MATCH.
- It is always the moment the players have to put in all their best either in DEFENCE or in ATTACK.
- It is the period the FANS GET SO TENSE AS THE MATCH BECOMES LESS PREDICTABLE.
In this lesson, “DIE-MINUTE” has to do with that THIN LINE BETWEEN THE LONG AWAITED ANSWER TO OUR PRAYERS AND THE ABILITY TO STAND THE TRIALS/TEMTATIONS THAT COMES THEREIN. Let me shock you that the reason some of us are yet to receive what we have prayed for in a long while is that WHENEVER IT GETS TO THE DIE-MINUTE (THAT MOMENT WE SHOULD RECEIVE THE ANSWER TO OUR PRAYERS), WE GIVE UP – perhaps by what we SAY, what we THINK, or what we DO.
Right from the inception of human relationship with God, there has always been moments that could be referred to as THE DIE-MINUTE. Apart from the five foolish virgins, examples of such moments abound and the characters scattered all over the Bible. We can see such a moment in the lives of:
- King Saul,
- King Ahaz,
- Children of Israel,
- Lot’s Wife etc
Let’s consider only two of these Bible characters with such a trait:
Saul Vs Samuel 1samuel. 13
After two years of Saul’s reign in Israel, he had a face-off with the Philistines
and both race prepared for war. Saul contacted Samuel to offer sacrifice in order to consult God but after seven days as promised, he didn’t showed up and Saul felt HE COULD EQUALLY SACRIFICE.
13:8 And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.
13:9 And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering.
13:10 And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him.
13:12 Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the LORD: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering.
13:13 And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.
13:14 But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.
Children of Israel and Moses EXO. 32
Exodus 32:1 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.
Exodus 32:6 And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.
Exodus 32:7 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves:
Exodus 32:15 And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony were in his hand: the tables were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written.
Exodus 32:19 And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses’ anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.
LESSON : somethtimes, God has just finished preparing and packaging what we had prayed, cried and toiled for but at the DIE MINUTE of delivering it to us, HE WILL SEE US SOMEWHERE MISBEHAVING.
It is perhaps true that all of us have prayed for something and maybe waited on the Lord for some answers but in the midst of your waiting :
- DO YOU FEEL THAT YOU CAN’T WAIT ANYMORE?
- DO YOU FEEL THAT GOD HAS DELAYED ?
- ARE PEOPLE CLOSE TO YOU SUGGESTING THINGS YOU HAVE NEVER EXPECTED FROM THEM ?
- DOES IT SEEMS YOU ARE GOING TO LOSE SOMETHING ?
- DOES IT SEEMS LIKE YOU ARE FORSAKEN OR FORGOTTEN BY GOD ?
BEFORE YOU FEEL LIKE GIVING UP, ALWAYS REMEMBER
*That Jesus said “LO, I will be with you till the end of the WORLD”
*That None who wait upon the Lord shall be put to shame
*That he who started the good works in you is very faithful to complete it
*That his thought about you is of good and not evil
Permit me to conclude it simply this way
IF YOU HAVE DECIDED TO FOLLOW JESUS, DECIDE IT ONCE AND FOR ALL.. DON’T BE AFRAID FOR HE IS READY TO GIVE YOU THE STRENGTH TO CLIMB ABOVE ANY MOUNTAIN AND TO SURMOUNT ANY CHALLENGE
He is ready to give you rest
Be strong and never give up on God..
